Vermicelli Biryani | Semiya Biryani

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes


1 cup of vermicelli
1 onion
1 tomato
½ tsp garlic chopped
½ tsp ginger chopped
1-2 green chillies
Potato, carrot, French beans, green peas
½ tsp turmeric powder
1-2 mint leaves (optional)
Coriander leaves, to garnish
2 cups of water
1 tbsp Ghee/oil
To temper
2 cloves
1 bay leaf
1 cardamom
Few curry leaves (optional)

How to make it

  • Dry roast vermicelli in a kadai and keep aside.

  • In a wok heat ghee/oil and temper the items given.

  • Add the chopped ginger and garlic, fry till the raw smell leaves.

  • Now add the sliced onions and cook till becomes transparent. Slit the green chillies and fry for 1-2 mins.

  • Follow by adding the chopped potatoes.

  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook it turns mushy.

  • Then add the veggies of choice with turmeric powder to it.

  • Add 2 cups of water and allow it to boil. 

  • Once it starts boiling, add the roasted vermicelli to it.

  • Cook in medium flame till it turns soft.
