Beetroot Soup Recipe

Even though I know beetroots are very good for the health, I rarely add in my menu. I don’t know why I hate this lovely vegetable after knowing all this. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you could see just few recipes with beets here. I make beetroot rice when TH not at home, cos he too hates it. This poor vegetable doesn't find any place in my pantry all these days. But here on, am trying to add up the beets to my menu, since I was advised to increase my RBCs. Nowadays I started to take beets by making this soup before my meal and I made it regular in my home. Generally it increases ur appetite and the pepper and cumin in the soup helps in ease digestion of the food taken. Trust me; it can relieve u from bad/sore throat immediately when taken with lots of pepper.

Rasam Powder Recipe | Home-made Rasam Powder

After seeing so many responses for my Sambar Powder Recipe, I thought of making Rasam Powder. And also its high time for me to make, since my rasam powder which I got from amma is gonna end. As usual this recipe is from amma. She makes the prefect rasam to my knowledge. It’s been a pleasure for me to have her rasam after the meals. I sometimes insist her to make Idicha Pepper Rasam, when I have sore throat or running nose. It will give  immediate relief for the trouble.

In this recipe I used powder asafoetida, hence added while grinding. If ur using solid asafoetida, just sauté them while roasting red chillies and follow with the steps given below. This powder can be stored in an airtight container for 1-3 months, if stored properly. I don’t prefer storing it for long, since the intense flavor will be lost after some days.

Check out few of my Rasam Recipes here and let me know about all ur reviews.

Garlic Rasam | Poondu Rasam Recipe

I love to make different types of rasam. I already have a post for spicy pepper rasam and tomato rasam, here comes another variety rasam… Garlic rasam!!! I purposefully I include lots of garlic in my recipes. Not because TH loves the flavor, it is very good when talking about health concerns. It has anti-cancer effect, relaxes digestion process, reduces blood pressure and the list goes on. Check out my few recipes with garlic as a main ingredient.

Chettinad Style Chicken Soup | Kozhi Rasam

For each and every meal we start with a soup variety and for a non-veg addict like me chicken soup would be a whole-some treat. I like mutton soup rather than the chicken. But, near to my place I don’t find any shop for mutton with bones in it. A mutton soup won’t taste better without a bone. So I switched to chicken. If u need to try mutton soup jus replace it. The ingredients and the method are the same.

Always serve the soup literally very hot. The spices and the pepper in it will give instant relief for ur running nose and cough. Check my other recipe for running nose.

Tomato Rasam - Thakkali Rasam Recipe

I always make rasam on all laze Mondays. TH can live his entire life eating rasam and potato-garlic fry. Most of the days I make a simple pepper rasam which he loves to have. I wanted to learn some more varieties of rasam and asked amma. And this time I got this recipe from my appa. I must say, he is the only person to make a rasam so authentic. In my childhood if amma is not at home or not well, appa makes the spiciest rasam, sambar and a fry. We loved eating dat for the entire day… *smile* woooofff!!! Enough of the stories or else I’ll go home-sick…:( and here the recipe comes from my appa…!!!

Spicy Pepper Rasam | Milagu Rasam

A perfect meal always ends with rasam.  Rasam plays a vital role in our south-indian meal. First part it helps in digesting the food easier and next, the spicy masalas helps to cure sore throat. I generally prefer having rasam whenever I feel sick.  Usually there are different varieties of rasam and one of my own favourite is “Edicha pepper rasam” which is awesome when u ve a bad throat.  This can be taken along with rice as a simple and yet spicy dish for lunch.
